CORINA BLACK
CHEIF MASTER ONWER (8th Degree)
Chief Master (8th Degree Black Belt) and owner of ATA Martial Arts of Lakewood since 1990, this Chicago native brings 40+ years of expertise to the mats. A Louisiana State University alum with a background in finance and law, they have hosted 10 "Denver Gold Rush" tournaments and trained under the ATA’s top Grand Masters. Certified in Krav Maga, SHARP, and various Protech weapons, they balance a distinguished martial arts career with a love for golf and family life.
JON RUNGE
MASTER (7th Degree
7th Degree Black Belt Master Runge is a Master Instructor with over 30 years in the ATA. Since joining Sr. Master Black’s ATA in 2003, he has become a cornerstone of the school, emphasizing traditional protocol, fitness, and conditioning. A retired business president and avid cyclist, he blends a "tougher" traditionalist style with a passion for helping beginners. Residing in Golden, CO, he is dedicated to motivating students and leading by example through high-rank training and competition.
KEN LUCERO
MASTER (6th Degree)
A 6th Degree Black Belt and Master Instructor, this dedicated martial artist has been a pillar of the ATA since 1997. As the former owner of Ken Caryl ATA for 15 years, they hold numerous Protech certifications, from Gum Do to Ground Fighting. A Level 3 National Judge and active competitor, they consistently train with Grand Masters to refine their craft. Their journey is defined by elite instruction, community leadership, and a lifelong commitment to the art of Songahm Taekwondo.
JEFF ANDERSON
DR CERTIFIED INSTRUCTOR (5th Degree)
Dr. Jeff Anderson is a 5th Degree Black Belt and Certified Instructor with over 15 years of experience in the ATA. A Doctor of Chiropractic by profession, he combines his background in neurobiology with a nurturing, disciplined teaching style. Since joining in 2008, he has trained under world-renowned Grand Masters and remains an active regional competitor and judge. Outside the dojo, Jeff plays keyboards in his band and is a proud husband and father to a family of fellow black belts.
HAROLD BLACK
MR CO-ONWER (4th Degree)
A 4th Degree Black Belt and co-owner of Master Black’s ATA, Mr. Black is a pillar of the Songahm legacy. Joining in 1977, he trained under Grand Master Soon Ho Lee and attended the historic 1987 Korea trip. A former school owner and tournament official, he was the original instructor for Ch. Master Black. Though retired from full-time teaching, he remains a "quiet force" behind the scenes, mentoring students in sparring and combat weapons while balancing a career as a Senior Project Manager.
MIKE MORTENSEN
MR CERTIFIED INSTRUCTOR (4th Degree)
Since 1994, I have been a dedicated member of the ATA, currently holding the rank of 4th Degree Black Belt. As a Level 2 Specialty Trainer with over 200 hours of teaching experience, I am passionate about mentoring students, from ATA Tigers to advanced ranks. I am also an active Level 3 Tournament Judge in the Denver Metro Area. My commitment to growth is reflected in my extensive training in Rank Advancement and legacy seminars, ensuring the highest standard of martial arts instruction.
SUMNER EVANS
MR CERTIFIED INSTRUCTOR (4th Degree)
Meet Mr. Evans, a 4th Degree Black Belt and Black Collar Certified Instructor with the ATA. Since 2007, he has dedicated over 300 teaching hours to martial arts, training under world-renowned Grand Masters. Outside the dojo, he is an accomplished software engineer at Beeper and a former Adjunct Professor at Colorado School of Mines, where he earned his M.S. in Computer Science. A Ken Caryl native, he enjoys skiing, travel, and spending time with friends and family.
MIKE PATTERSON
MR CERTIFIED INSTRUCTOR (4th Degree)
Michael Patterson is a 4th Degree Black Belt and World Champion competitor with the ATA. A Software Engineer with a 30-year career at companies like Google, he brings technical precision to his martial arts. Michael is a Level 3 Instructor specializing in XMA and Gum Do. Since joining the ATA in 1998, he has earned multiple State and World titles. Known for his signature flying side kicks at famous landmarks, he travels from Boulder to Lakewood to share his passion for elite weaponry.

MR LEGACY INSTRUCTOR (2BR Degree)
Since joining ATA in 2021, I have rapidly progressed to a 2nd Degree Black Belt and Level 2 Specialty Trainer with 200+ teaching hours. My journey includes elite training at Mile High Camp with Grand Masters and multiple Legacy Boot Camps. As a Level 1 Tournament Judge and active competitor at the World level, I am dedicated to the growth of Region 109. Witnessing my mentors’ Mastership ceremonies remains a highlight of my deep commitment to the martial arts and our ATA community.
JILL GREEN
MRS INSTRUCTOR (2nd Degree)
Dedicated 2nd Degree Black Belt and Level 1 Trainer Instructor who joined ATA in 2020. A Stanford Law graduate and parent of two, they balance a professional background with a passion for martial arts. Since 2023, they have logged 100+ teaching hours, specializing in helping adult color belts master technique in an encouraging environment. An active competitor and Level 2 tournament judge, they have trained under Grand Masters to bring elite skill to every class.
SHONNA SULTZ
MS INSTRUCTOR (2nd Degree)
Meet Shonna, a dedicated 2nd Degree Black Belt and Level 2 Specialty Trainer at ATA. Since joining in 2021, she has amassed 200+ teaching hours, mentored students as a Level 1 judge, and competed four times at the National level. A Denver native and mother of five, Shonna joined the mats following her children’s lead, turning a family passion into a coaching career. Known for her encouraging spirit, she empowers every student to have a positive and successful martial arts journey.
SALMA GARCIA
MS INSTRUCTOR (1st Degree)
Since achieving his 1st Degree Black Belt in 2024, this dedicated martial artist has shown rapid growth since joining the ATA in January 2022. Currently advancing through the instructor ranks as a Red Collar Trainee, he is committed to technical excellence and leadership. A highlight of his journey includes training under Grand Master M.K. Lee at the 2024 Regional Legacy Training Event, further fueling his passion for the ATA legacy and his future as an instructor.
